An ancient Asian bodywork system, based in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, AMMA™ is concerned with the movement of life force energy, called Qi (pronounced chee), in the human body. The treatment utilizes specific hands-on massage techniques not only into the musculature of the body, but along the energy meridians, incorporating manipulation of acupressure points as well.
AMMA™ Therapeutic Massage Therapy has proven to be a powerful therapy for patients of all ages for both prevention and treatment of conditions including:
- Muscular/Skeletal Problems
- Sciatica and Low Back Pain
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Epstein Barr Virus
- Asthma and Bronchitis

*Please note: While AMMA™ Therapy may be experienced on its own, it does not replace conventional medical treatment. It is important that your physician be aware of all treatment modalities you are receiving.

The Story of Amma
The story of Amma™ Therapy and its journey from Korea to the United States is detailed in the book “Amma Therapy, A Complete Textbook of Oriental Bodywork and Medical Principles/Tina Sohn and Robert Sohn”. As stated in this text, Tina Sohn was born into one of the eight hundred families who constituted the traditional ruling class of Korea. The royal Kim family was comprised of acupuncturists, herbalists, philosophers and masters of the martial arts. The women practiced the ancient healing arts while the men focused on the martial arts. Within the family, training in energy development and control began during childhood.
Throughout her childhood, Tina Sohn learned the healing arts from her grandmother. Her development as a master of the healing arts continued after her marriage to Robert Sohn who was a philosopher and master of the martial arts. Together they founded the New Center for Holistic Health, Education and Research with programs in Acupuncture, Massage Therapy and Holistic Nursing. AMMA™ Therapy was taught in all the programs. I will always be grateful for the extraordinary privilege I had to learn AMMA™ Therapy from those gifted practitioners who were taught directly by Tina Sohn.
